ShinGiTai – Karate International
Iain Abernethy Seminar – March 2007
On Saturday the 24th March 2007 Iain Abernethy conducted a kata Bunkai seminar on behalf of ShinGiTai Shotokan Karate Club in Leeds. The event was organised by Steve Leak of Karate International Martial Arts Association.
Clubs and Instructors from all over the North of England attended plus Sensei Thorsten Windhorst of Jion Karate Club in Ganderkasee, Germany also attended making this an International seminar.
Sensei Abernethy first taught a few warm up exercises with a difference followed by some explanations of basic technique. He then started to explain his theories on bunkai for the Pinan/Heian series of kata. These were very thought provoking and opened a lot of people’s eyes and minds.
At the end of the sessions Iain did a questions and answer sessions where the students could ask Iain about different kata`s and hopefully get an answer that would help them understand and appreciate the techniques involved better.
Though the seminar lasted over four hours the day flew by and ended too quickly. Iain will be conducting another seminar in Leeds in September 2007.
